Banks and Building Societies normally tax your interest before they pay it to you. This is typically at a rate of 20%. However, if you don't think that you should be paying tax on your savings you should contact HM Revenue & Customs on one of the numbers listed below for advice on what action you need to take.

To check whether you are entitled to receive interest without tax being taken off, you must first read the R85 Helpsheet (2010). The Helpsheet and form R85 are provided in Adobe Acrobat format. Please read the Helpsheet and if you are entitled to receive interest without tax being taken off, download the form R85, print it out, complete it and post it back to the address shown below.
