A guide to Financial Planning

Not exactly sure what a Financial Planning Review involves? Want to find out more about what happens – and when? Then let us explain.

So, what does a Financial Planning Review involve?

With so much to think about, sorting out your finances can get complicated, so we offer our customers a thorough review with a fully qualified financial adviser who knows exactly what’s what.

If you choose to arrange a review, it would be with a Legal & General adviser based at your local Northern Rock branch. We have been working with Legal & General for over 21 years, so we know that you will be in good hands.

Your adviser can help you decide what’s financially important to you right now, so you can make the best decisions. There’s no fee for the review and no obligation at all – just a helpful friendly chat at a time and place to suit you. It’s an easy way to make the most of your money and do the things you want to in life, knowing that some of your financial needs are covered.

3 simple steps to sort out your finances

Step 1 - initial meeting

Your adviser will take time to understand all about you during your review. This is sometimes referred to as a ‘fact-find’. You don’t have to tell them anything you don’t want to, but talking things through properly can help them meet your needs.

They will:

  • look at where you are today
  • ask about your goals and what you want to achieve
  • talk about how safe you want your money to be
  • check whether you’re missing anything important

Step 2 - follow-up meeting

After thinking through what you’ve discussed, your adviser will arrange a follow-up meeting to present their recommendations to you. At this meeting, they will suggest some ways to meet your individual needs, including:

  • getting your money working harder
  • protecting you and your family financially
  • saving you money; or
  • helping you to be better off in retirement

Step 3 - your decision

You can take some time to think and decide what’s right for you – there’s no pressure at all. If you decide not to take up any recommendations, that’s absolutely fine with us. If you do, just let your adviser know and they’ll sort everything out for you.
